We need your help.
The trend of
mega-mergers and massive chains is wiping out small town
USA, and with it, the distinctiveness of local cultures.
The problem is particularly visible in the film
community, where multiplexes are quickly consuming and
taking the place of smaller specialized theaters,
disassembling many art communities and alienating film
goers and enthusiasts alike.
At LIVE FREE OR DIE
FILMS, we feel it is incredibly important to support
independent cinema. Films have the unique ability to
move people, to take an audience to another place and to
show a new way of looking at things. Residing just
outside the mainstream, it is often the independent
films that stand out for their innovative voices and
creative storytelling. It would be a tremendous loss to
see this world of creativity and courage come to an end
for lack of support within the community.
Barry Steelman, owner of Cinema 93 Video and a proponent of independent cinema for thirty years, is trying to keep cinema alive in New England. With the help of several local residents, he has created Red River Theatres, Inc., a non-profit corporation. They are committed to opening a theatre in downtown Concord, NH, where they will screen specialty and foreign films, as well as productions by local artists. For more information, please contact Barry directly at 603/225-5650 or contactsnob@snobfilmfestival.org.
